CARB Public Workshop: 2022 Scoping Plan Update – Public Health Analysis

The California Air Resources Board (CARB) is holding another public workshop related to the 2022 Scoping Plan Update this Tuesday, February 15 from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. According to the agency’s bulletin, this workshop will discuss CARB’s planned qualitative and quantitative health analysis, in collaboration with the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) and the Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA). This effort will build upon and broaden the assessment of public health included in previous scoping plans.

The 2022 Scoping Plan Update assesses the state’s progress towards achieving the Senate Bill 32 2030 target to reducing greenhouse gas emissions in California while outlining the path to achieve carbon neutrality no later than 2045. CARB notes that this workshop will discuss how they intend to work with CDPH and OEHHA to take a broad look at public health benefits in California associated with carbon neutrality. The analysis will include both quantitative and qualitative analysis of health benefits and a discussion of the social determinants of health and how they relate to decarbonization.

The meeting will be held via webinar and individuals will need to register in advance to participate. The workshop notice, agenda and presentation slides are available on the Scoping Plan meetings page. You can find future information regarding this and other ongoing regulatory actions under our “Resources” page.
