Coalition Hosts Legislators on ReFuel Tour Demonstrating RNG’s Benefits

On Feb. 24, 10 legislative and committee staff members learned about RNG production and its benefits on a tour of the ReFuel biodigester facility co-hosted by Coalition President Thomas Lawson and Sean Moen, general manager of ReFuel. The tour included an explanation of how the facility creates RNG from organic waste and the environmental benefits of doing so.

During a ride to the facility on a natural gas school bus, Lawson, Moen, and staffers discussed possible legislation supporting NGVs and other alternative fuel vehicles as a way of advancing California’s air quality goals. The Coalition and ReFuel are planning another tour in the spring.

“We always welcome visitors to the facility,” said Moen. “Please reach out if you’re interested in learning more about the biodigester.”

Clean Energy Sells RNG Business Unit to BP

BP will buy Clean Energy Fuels’ RNG production unit for $155 million, the two companies announced on March 1. The deal includes Clean Energy’s existing biomethane production facilities, its share of two new facilities, and its third-party supply contracts for RNG. BP will continue to subcontract the operations of these facilities to Clean Energy.

Clean Energy will keep selling Redeem RNG fuel—customers will see no difference in their service. According to the companies, the deal will accelerate the growth of RNG supplies to meet rising market demand. The transaction is subject to regulatory approval.

“This represents a huge step forward for the RNG industry,” said Coalition President Thomas Lawson. “It’s a recognition by a large energy company of RNG’s market potential as a clean alternative to diesel.”

Agility Fuel Systems Introduces Natural Gas Optimization Tool for Cummins Trucks

Agility Fuel Solutions has introduced Blue iQ, a proprietary technology developed in partnership with Cummins to give NGVs the same tools diesel trucks have to optimize fuel consumption and maximize uptime. Blue iQ integrates with Cummins’ Connected Diagnostics, INSITE service tool, and QuickServe support to enable real-time management diagnostics and service, and it’s the only such tool that has access to Cummins’ proprietary engine data.
